A copy of our Master Plan is available online in a PDF format. The Master Plan was designed with the combined efforts of Andrew Stewart, Josh Hill, and Jim Hasenbeck of Studio Architecture in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In 2002, Special Needs Adult Communities, (SNAC) Inc., doing business as Wings, was created as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation. Its purpose is to realize the mission and vision of the friends, family and supporters of adults with disabilities in Oklahoma.
Wings is fashioned after the highly successful Brookwood Community, located just outside Houston in Brookshire, Texas. The Brookwood model is, “a community within a community”, a self-contained residential and work educational campus designed to enhance the lives of adults with functional disabilities who cannot live comfortably “on their own” in society. Wings is designed to provide holistic life-long services in a warm, creative environment, carefully balanced between independence and assistance. This community atmosphere promotes a strong sense of pride and belonging for all.
Wings is also a progressive application of the American Free Enterprise System. The Community will be independent of all direct government subsidies and be largely self-sustaining through tuition, private sector donations and its thriving business enterprises. The Community will present employment opportunities for both disabled and non-disabled adults.
