SUBSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR

Reports to: Program Coordinator - Instruction

Job Summary: Substitute Instructor is responsible for executing the planned curriculum of the full-time Instructor and contributing to an inviting, challenging, and purposeful atmosphere in the Day Program offered to Wings Members.

Culture and Mission: Assist in enhancing the lives of adults with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow lesson plans provided by the full-time Instructor to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for Members. 

  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage Member participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive environment. 

  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual Member. 

  • Assist in the supervision of Member and Program needs, in and out of the classroom. 

  • Help with Member lunches from 12-12:30 when subbing in the morning and 12:30 – 1:00pm when subbing in the afternoon. 

  • Help with Member dismissal from 3:45 – 4:00pm when subbing in the PM. 

  • Apply appropriate behavioral interventions, as necessary. 

  • Maintain professional working relationships with staff, parents, and volunteers. 

  • Implement educational and vocational curriculum using all three modalities of learning, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Long-term substitutes may be asked to write lesson plans. 

  • Transport Members in Wings passenger vans to off-site community partners, as necessary. 

  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Meet physical requirements to safely perform assigned duties

  • Ability to drive 11 or 15 passenger van

  • Pass criminal and motor vehicle background checks
